November 11, 2008lack of clarity
November 2, 2008I find that sometimes it is difficult to see the clarity in life, or an image for that matter. It sometimes feels like everything is a blur and I can’t seem to focus on anything. Why is it that we want to be busy when we’re bored and have nothing to do (yea do you remember the last time that happened?) and then when we’re running around struggling to focus on anything we long for nothing but to have nothing to do.
In truth the photo above was actually taken in very low light (no flash) and with a few (who’s counting) glasses of wine in me. But in the last few weeks I’ve felt like this. 1800 miles in 4 days probably has nothing to do with that. My wish is that if you feel like this to stop and try to get into the moment, what’s really happening RIGHT now. I wouldn’t trade this moment for anything, it is prefect, it is life.
heavy heart
October 22, 2008Today I have a heavy heart. My Grandpa past away today at the age of 87. He and my grandma lived next door to us all of my childhood. I remember going over to see them when my mom was tired of us running around and we’d play games. And I’m pretty sure Grandpa was the first person to give me a drink of beer.
He had the ‘miller’ sense of humor. (Miller is my maiden name). Once when I went to visit him recently. He leaned forward in his chair with a sly little grinn on his face and says, ‘Rachael guess what I did?!’ He blinks a few times and his smile grows larger. I couldn’t help bust out laughing and say ‘Grandpa WHY did you shave your eye brows off!?’ ‘Because they were in the way!’ Of course, what other reason could there be? Ok Grandpa.
Another time he smiles his big grin at me again and says ‘Guess what I did?’ Oh Grandpa, I can’t image. ‘I’ve been brushing my teeth with Ivory soap, it makes my teeth white and the ladies like white teeth!’ Of course they do! Grandpa always tried to keep the ladies on their toes. ALWAYS.
You may think he’s a little off his rocker, but that was Grandpa and that’s just his way of making things livily. A way that makes very sad that I won’t be able to hear anymore.
So as I wipe away my tears, here’s to you Grandpa! I hope Grandma likes your pearly whites and shaved eye brows as much as I do! I love you and you will be greatly missed!
Don’t do it!
September 11, 2008I just have to do it! If you’re really bored or just need a laugh go to this site. Seriously just spend far to much time doing what I’m not ’suppose’ to do. Freak’n Hilarious!

DNC
September 11, 2008So the DNC was a couple weeks ago, but it’s been a busy couple of weeks. I do have to say the whole week of the DNC was quiet. There were lots of people and with lots of people you get a few … characters. But other then that I thought the week went very smoothly, despite all the anxiety prior to the event.
I went out on the 16th street mail on Thursday that week just to see all the fun characters. I wasn’t disappointed.
Doesn’t this make you see safe? I think he took more photos then me!
I love this one too, feels a little NYC like.
And you don’t this every day either. This brigade of horses wasn’t actually downtown. They were all the way north in Five Points. Just strolling the neighborhood. Now that makes me feel safe!
The next couple aren’t from the DNC, but I thought I’d share them.
LIVE!
September 6, 2008It has been such an incredible crazy busy month! I feel like I’ve been going non-stop, but the end is in sight! I’ve finally finished my website and am taking it LIVE baby! It feels so good to have this accomplished and have a place for people to view more of my work. I do owe a BIG thank you to my brother Aaron. He is incredible at the computer and wrote all the code for it. I just told him what it was suppose to look like!
Please take a look and let me know what you think!
One Light
July 21, 2008Zack Arias, the amazing photographer, teacher, and inspiration that he is did a workshop in Boulder last Thursday. I however delayed signing up for it and didn’t make the cut. But I know the hostess and just a few days before she called me frantically hoping that I would come be the model, because she couldn’t find one. In exchange for standing in front of the camera I could have all the benefits of being at the workshop for free! Ah YEA ya think I said no to that!? So I was a model for a day. Mind everyone I’ve never had any experience modeling in my life and my ’sexy’ face looks more like I have to pee. (long story there). But how can you pass up an opportunity like that? Sadly I don’t have any photos to share, but be sure to check out Zack’s blog.
The One Light Workshop was amazing! Zack knows so much about light and how to manipulate light to do what he wants. A phrase he said during the workshop was ‘making darkness with light’. I think that says exactly what this work shop was about.
Boston
June 18, 2008Cody and I made a trip to Boston two weeks ago to visit my cousin. I LOVE Boston! I’d be living there right now, if I hadn’t married a western cowboy from South Dakota. Sigh. At least I can visit and beg to move there, knowing full well it’ll never happen.
While we were there we took a day trip to a little Coastal town. It was rainy, but I still ate the best clam chowder ever. I think I gorged myself on seafood in the four days we were there. It’s just soooo much better when you can smell the sea air over a glass of wine.
On the day we flew out, my 10 year cousins had their end of the year, or maybe it was summer kick off picnic. Anyway, it was their last year at the elementary school, so it was a little bitter sweet for their momma. They had a beautiful evening for the festivities.
It was a fast but fun trip to the east coast. I can’t wait to go back again!
Grandpa’s 80!
May 26, 2008On May 5th Cody’s grandpa turned 80 years old. So we made the pilgrimage to the middle of nowhere to celebrate with the family. We grilled lots of meat, made homemade ice cream and where entertained by a comedian. Not a bad party for an old guy!
The Birthday boy himself. And I have to say he’s look’n pretty good for 80!
I think this such an odd photo, but I really like it.
This one cracks me up! He’s going to make sure he blows those candles out!
And what spring time trip to the ranch would be complete without a brand new baby lamb, just moments old. AHHHH, almost makes you want to live in the middle of nowhere!
Times of Change
May 26, 2008Graphic Design. Either you got it or ya don’t. I don’t. That is to say I know what I like, but to actually design something myself is another story. So I enlist the help of Michelle Schaad a graphic designer here in Denver. She was FANTASTIC! I can’t say enough good things about her. She helped me think outside of the box and out of my rut. She even let me play with the different ideas myself to satisfy my creative side.
The Logo is just the beginning of change. I’m doing a website as well, which hopefully will go live in July. Till that time I’d love to here your comments on the logo!
